SHARE GOD'S BLESSINGS

FR. CARL SCHMITZ, CP

Today, April 07, is Fr. Carl's 22nd death anniversary. We once again prayerfully and lovingly recall his heroic sacrifices as a missionary to the indigenous peoples of the Southern Philippine provinces of South Cotabato and Sarangani.

At 9:00 0'clock this morning, a mass was being offered in the chapel (which is but a couple of meters away from where he was murdered) in Barangay Assumption, Koronadal City. The concelebrated Eucharistic celebration of Frs. Edwin Flor, CP, Rey Ondap, CP, and William Pondo, CP was attended by the local residents as well as by the CMIP staffs and workers. A mass in Fr Carl's memory was also being offered at Holy Cross Spiritual Center, where his body was being laid to rest in its cemetery.

We’d like to thank UP PSYCHOLOGY SOCIETY, through its incumbent vice president and external affairs committee chairperson, Ms Christine Michelle E. Fua, for generously donating twenty thousand pesos (P20,000.00) to the Mission.

In her letter to the Mission Director, Fr. Edwin S. Flor, CP, she explains:

” It is with optimism and humility that I inform you that this was raised throughout the past academic year for the sole purpose of helping your mission. As an alumna of Miriam College High School, I was able to see the hard work that you have put into helping our indigenous brothers and sisters. I believe that other members of our organization share my belief that our donation will go to a worthy cause. It is my hope that it will be sufficient in helping the mission in whatever endeavor you may choose to invest this amount in. Good day and God bless. “

To all the officers and members of the said society, you are deeply appreciated. May God reward you a hundredfold.

CMIP EDUCATIONAL TOUR IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MIRIAM COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL UNIT

Gurong Lingkod 2010 In partnership with The Catholic Mission to the Indigenous Peoples Solidarity Building: Empowering Communities to Serve Teacher Training and Educational Tour in Manila March 20-23, 2010 Miriam College High School

OBJECTIVES: Overall: 1. Nurture the skills of the mission teachers by responding to their training needs in the area; 2. Provide an adequate exposure as they visit the historical places in Manila; and 3. Develop a sense of commitment and passion for teaching as they continue to serve our brothers and sisters in Mindanao.

In one of their school activities sometime last year, the Miriam College (high school) teachers, who have been actively supporting the mission, beautifully portrayed some aspects of B'laan culture in a modern song-and-dance rendition.

A day in the life of a modern-day missionary. Life is spent with the poorest of the poor; up on the remotest mountains where nobody would normally like to climb. Armed with only one thing - the great desire to reach out to the forgotten.
