LOOKING BACK...

February 9, 1959 *Dear Father Caspar, “…Our flight to the Passionist territory in Mindanao, took the greater part of a day. You see, we are almost 800 miles south of Manila. The flight was beautiful, an airplane view of the many (4000) islands, with their rich verdure and mountains and waterfalls, -- was quite breathtaking. We were met by all of our Passionist Missioners (who had come last January-58) and enjoyed a wonderful reunion. It was a great joy to see men we had studied with and worked with and lived with back home, -- now welcoming us to this new apostolate. Also at the Airport was a large delegation of Marist Brothers (who staff our schools) plus school bands and some representatives of the civil government. School girls put leis around our necks, the sign of “Welcome” over here, as in Hawaii. Within two days, assignments had been given, and we were all dispersed to our missions.” |
